As I sit and reflect on ceremony last night with Cree medicine men, I am reminded of the sacredness of all plants and their powerful medicine. In particular I was thinking about my long-standing relationship with psychedelics, how I used them before, the decades long break while raising my son then the inevitable return of their presence when students of mine started asking me to take them on medicine journeys. How did they know? I wasn't particularly happy with their return. My thinking is that I always feel connected to spirit and can see very well without their aid, thank you very much. I have done the work. However, here they are. So I began to question why again. Clearly my journey with Ayahuasca has been incredibly beneficial to my healing. I call it “The Great Heart Opening.” The spirit of Aya has thrown me into the world of vegistalismo and I talk to the plants now just as much as I do the animals. Through these conversations I have learned what to eat to heal my body. This connection has crossed over into the psychedelic plant realm. I know them now on a different level. I have been “spoken to” about my misuse in the past, Through sometimes painful, always powerful, recent experiences I have been shown how intention is key and respect is a must. I believe they have come back to my life in order to teach me ceremony, restraint and reverence in order to pass that on to others. It's so important now more than ever to remember the sacredness of all plant medicine and that they each hold a power that can destroy you or Heal you (or both).
